Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will explore the potential for digital badges and badge systems to transform assessment practices and increase learner motivation and engagement in both formal and informal contexts. The symposium brings together researchers whose collective work draws from a variety of methodological and theoretical perspectives to probe the opportunities, challenges, and best practices associated with digital badges in education. These papers represent four of the first systematic investigations of digital badges in education. A leading scholar in motivation research will tie these findings to the broader context of learning and motivation in social and cultural contexts. Social media will be used to engage audience members in dialogue around the central themes of the panel.
