Twice Exceptionality in Urban Contexts: Perspectives and Experiences of Educators

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 10:15am, Sheraton, Floor: Second Level, Missouri

Abstract

This qualitative study examined the perceptions, attitudes, and experiences of educators who work in urban schools that serve twice exceptional students. The sample comprised 5 educators, all of which came from a large, urban district in the Midwest. Two major themes emerged from the participants’ responses: (a) perceived needs of twice exceptional urban students and (b) lack of training and resources. Recommendations for educators, the district, and policy are included.
