Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

This study explored the use of online text-based asynchronous focus group discussions as a manner of enhancing a face-to-face professional development workshop for PK-12 educators. The researcher employed eight online focus groups as a post-workshop discussion and evaluation. Participant surveys, ratings, word counts and post frequencies were used in data analysis. Additionally, classic content analysis was used in analysis of open-ended questions and focus group transcripts. Placed in a framework of best-practices for educator professional development, the focus group methodology was found to be an effective method of improving long-term implementation and praxis of participants.
