Committee on Scholars of Color in Education Open Business Meeting and Moderated Panel Discussion on Mentoring

Abstract

The AERA Committee on Scholars of Color in Education is planning a moderated panel discussion on mentoring for graduate students, early career scholars, and mid-career scholars during its open business meeting and breakfast. We envision a panel of scholars across ranks to provide insights, information, and experiences regarding mentoring in the academy—in general and unique to scholars of color—from the perspective of someone who has been mentored (or not mentored) and/or someone who is a mentor. The tentative format of the panel discussion will be (a) brief introductions, (b) moderated Q&A session, (c) questions from the audience, and (d) discussion of next steps for the Committee. The panel discussion is meant to be informal, yet provide valuable and useful information to graduate students, early career scholars, and mid-career scholars.
