The policing of prolific offenders in Canada constitutes a significant use of policing resources at local and provincial levels. And yet, this area of policing research has generated little attention from Canadian scholars. This paper presents a case study of prolific offender management processes and technologies within the province of New Brunswick. What this study demonstrates is that even within a single province there is wide variation among agencies as to what types of individuals are labeled ‘prolific’ for policing purposes. Practical and policy implications of the lack of congruence as to who is, and how to manage, ‘prolific offenders’ are discussed.
