Session Submission Type: Panel
This panel will explore how land (noble, church, state, and bourgeois)was redistributed among peasants in accord with the Land Decree of October 1917 and the Land Socialization Law of early 1918. The land distribution fulfilled the age-old peasant dream (and abiding revolutionary concept and goal) of the Velikii Chernyi Peredel. Only lightly touched upon in English-language historiography, the terms of redistribution defined peasant life and agriculture until Collectivization and, in some ways, even beyond.
