A Methodology for Developing a Case-Based Fraud Examination Course - Searchable Database and Portal

Abstract

As a part of a working paper entitled A Methodology for Developing a Case-Based Fraud Examination Course a searchable database of fraud cases was proposed. The paper was presented at the annual AAA meeting in 2012 and then an updated version presented at the 2013 annual AAA meeting. Demonstrating the database and receiving feedback on its design and functionality are the next steps in moving ahead with the paper.
A collaborative project between the authors and computer science students at Canisius College was undertaken this fall. The students were charged with designing a web portal and the searchable database. The web portal is designed so that it can be accessed by faculty looking to add fraud cases to their courses. A series of attributes as discussed in the paper will be searchable, including things like type of fraud and appropriate course level.
