Abstract
Kate has been employed with UAC for over 22 years, and has served as Associate Director since 1996. Her prior employers include Texas A&M University and Ernst & Young, where she served in audit and litigation support. Kate graduated s from Oklahoma State University. Professional certifications she has obtained include: CPA (Texas and Florida), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
With more than 27 years of experience, performing complex operational and compliance audits, financial audits, and investigations Kate serves as University Audit & Compliance's first fraud investigator. Kate managed the transition to ACFE standards and the development of formal investigation procedures. In 2000, Kate championed the transition to data analysis tools, such as ACL, to increase the effectiveness of audits and investigations. Kate developed a series of ACL cases used by the USF School of Accountancy and presented guest lectures to students on data analysis and fraud detection. She served on the implementation teams for PeopleSoft HRMS and PeopleSoft Financials and remains a consultant on the PeopleSoft Directors Team.
Kate managed the implementation of TeamMate (a paperless time management, work paper, and audit follow-up system) and currently serves as System Administrator. In 2008, TeamMate processes were formally aligned with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and ISACA standards, ensuring compliance with audit and consulting standards. Kate led a team who redesigned UAC's TeamMate application to align with the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process that will allow for more efficient system-driven reporting.
