Fri, January 22, 3:30 to 5:00pm, TBA

Abstract

Business intelligence (BI) systems have increasingly been viewed as a means of instantly implementing a comprehensive management control systems, particularly for performance measurement capabilities. To date the research has largely focused on the organizational structures surrounding the development of a knowledge culture and enhancing communication between operational and IT managers in order to leverage BI. We extend upon this research with a focus on the quality of the BI implementation and the linkages with robust performance measurement capability leading to competitive advantage. Using a survey of 384 CEO/CFO level managers, we collect data to test a structural model of the interrelationships between BI quality, performance measurement capability and competitive advantage. The results support the theorized positive relationships between BI quality and performance measurement capability, along with indirect effects of BI quality on competitive advantage.
