Integration of Data Analytics into Higher Education Curriculum

Abstract

Global professional organizations such as the AICPA, accrediting bodies like AACSB, and the big 4 accounting firms have stressed the significance of integrating data analytics into accounting degree programs. AACSB Standard A7 states that data analytics should be one of the main components of accounting curricula. Recent research has explored how institutions can integrate data analytics in higher education. This paper presents the results from a survey of accounting faculty and administrators on the effectiveness of integration of data analytics in accounting curriculum, how faculty are gaining the necessary skills to understand and teach data analytics and whether integration of data analytic skills are keeping up with the demand from potential employers.
