Evaluating the role of personality traits in accounting students and their performance in traditional, hybrid, and online accounting courses

Abstract

This study is the first to explore the consistency of personality traits and the impact on accounting student performance in online, hybrid, and traditional education delivery formats. The study uses the Big Five model as a framework for identifying relationships between broad personality traits and student performance. GPA is known to be a strong predictor of future performance, but this paper looks further into what other characteristics a student has individually to sustain the high GPA, and if this is consistent with today’s hybrid and online learning environment. None of the independent variables had a significant correlation. When comparing one delivery mode to the other two the one-way ANOVA had statistical significance for high introversion (low extraversion).
