Critical thinking and written communication skills are important skills for entry-level accountants; however, a large number of accounting graduates lack these skills. While there are pedagogical strategies (such as the use of case studies) that have been found to be effective in teaching course concepts, critical thinking, and written communication skills, little research has been conducted on the effectiveness of the practice in accounting courses. This paper provides some evidence that the use of case studies in Intermediate Financial Accounting improves both critical thinking and written communication skills of accounting students.
