Case Project Template for Introductory Financial Accounting

Abstract

This “case” is a template for an introductory financial accounting case project. The introductory financial accounting case template included here contains all project instructions and can easily be edited by an individual instructor.
The template can be used for a project to be assigned in an introductory accounting case. In this project, students will be assigned to two-person teams. Each team picks an industry in which the members of the team are interested. Once an industry is selected, the team picks two companies within that industry to analyze in the project. The case template provides detailed instructions to provide to students for step-by-step details of the project. In the project, the students find information in each company’s Form 10K, calculate ratios, and analyze the results over the class term. The students also make a few short presentations throughout the term as they get deeper into the analysis. In the final project submission, the students indicate which of the two companies that they had analyzed is the more healthy of the two companies studied. The students also need to provide their rationale for the choice of the most healthy company in that final submission.
