Putting the “Flip” to the Test of Time: Students, Video and Pandemic-era Performance

Fri, April 1, 10:30 to 11:50am, Virtual, TBA

Abstract

This paper could be considered an empirical evaluation of a central premise of the "flipped classroom." Specifically, if lectures were recorded and students were expected to view them in lieu of traditional classroom lectures, would they actually view them? Using the semester after the forced pivot of higher education caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as a natural experiment, the results show that most students might have watched them, but time spent doing so was not connected to grades.
