Designing a Personal Balanced Scorecard: A Student-Based Comprenhensive Learning Project

Abstract

The balanced scorecard fills a serious deficiency in traditional management systems by providing a link between long-term strategy and short-term initiatives. This project was designed for MBA students working full time in a professional setting. A six week detailed assignment plan walks the student step by step through the process of designing a personal balanced scorecard related to their position. Through the completion of weekly assignments and feedback provided by the professor, the student develops a more comprehensive understanding of the practical application(s) of the balanced scorecard. The final project requires the student to clearly present their balanced scorecard design and demonstrate how the measures help align the short-term initiatives in their current position to their organization’s long-term strategy.
