Technological advancements are paving the way for more creative teaching methods. The overall goal of this study is to determine the relationship between instructor generated videos in business courses and student engagement, motivation, perception, and performance. The instructors created Youtube videos to help students work through financial oriented and data analysis problems, in addition to lecture videos and information videos in financial accounting and basic analysis classes. Students reported that they watched the videos and found them to be helpful. Students viewed the videos primarily to review for exams. Students almost unanimously believe that instructor generated videos should be used in class. However, they do not necessarily want video classes to replace traditional classes. While we found mixed evidence that grades improved for students who watched the videos, we need to further explore this finding by expanding our data collection. Since educators are being encouraged to explore technology to complement traditional education, the present study provides useful information and is, therefore, a step in the right direction.
