In this presentation, we demonstrate and describe three strategies for moving face-to-face (F2F) classes to a fully online environment. First, IDEA Data Analysis Software can generate audit simulations like those found in the auditing profession. Extractions and other activities, accompanied by review notes and feedback, help students engage in remote learning. Student assignments resubmitted based on instructor feedback show growth in their thinking. Second, students can use Excel to study problems not only at face value but also in various circumstances. Formulas and spreadsheet design must be robust enough to yield correct outcomes even when input and/or methods change. Student assignments indicate that students learn to think beyond the given data. Third, faculty can use Blackboard Collaborate, in conjunction with a web-capable document camera, to deliver synchronous, interactive lectures in accounting courses. Student assessments in D2L Brightspace provide real-time performance evaluation; assignments in D2L show students how to think critically as they integrate their developing skills with data analysis. Attendees will learn how to supplement their F2F pedagogy or convert fully to online delivery.
