Summary

Using classroom observation and interviews from three individual students, this study examines the Willingness to Communicate (WTC) of Chinese graduate students in the United States from the L2 socialization perspective. The findings contribute to the view that L2 socialization into academic discourse is a dynamic and socially situated process.
