In the realm of international relations, cognitive aspects have been more and more important. Political leaders can no longer ignore public opinions on foreign countries. Moreover, public opinions of “international community,” especially those of neighbor countries, have been gaining power over particular bilateral relations.
China and Japan, or Sino-Japan relation, are no exceptions. Then, how East Asian countries including Japan and China are viewing China and Japan? Are there any chronological changes of their image on China and Japan? In this presentation, the author will introduce some interesting research findings of AsiaBarometer, a huge dataset covering 32 countries with more than 52.000 samples, to answer the questions above. Some research findings of Asian Student Survey, which covers China, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia, will be also mentioned in the presentation.
