Effect of Self-Generated Learning of Chinese Idioms through iPads, A Mixed-Method Study

Short Description

This proposal reports a Category 1 Completed Study on using iPads in teaching Chinese idioms to heritage learners. Twelve college students were engaged in self-generated learning process of abstract and concrete idioms with iPads. Students’ short-term and long-term performances of their learning were collected, together with their feedback to a questionnaire and the artifacts they created during the learning process. The results showed that the textual and visual illustrations of the idioms facilitated idiom learning.
