Attention, Action Video Games, and Mathematics

Wed, Nov 5, 3:30 to 4:30pm, 2nd Level, Grand 8

Short Description

Action video games (AVGs) is an effective way to improve attention skills that are important for academic foundations. This pre/post-test experimental study investigated the effects of AVGing on forty undergraduate students’ math performance and math anxiety that are mediated by the effect of attention on working memory. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two intervention conditions: AVG and non-AVG. It was hypothesized that AVG training will improve students’ math performance and reduce math anxiety.
