Geriatric Learner Ability and Educator Opportunities for Maximizing Positive Learning Experiences

Wed, Nov 5, 2:15 to 3:15pm, 3rd Level, City Terrace 06

Short Description

Older adults have long been considered unable to learn. Cultural stereotypes enforce this fallacy and create a negative perception of aging and aged adults. Neurobiological research has demonstrated that older adults can learn and grow new brain cells. Lessons from the research and axioms for practice will be presented. The presentation will conclude by presenting a cultural motivator for educational professionals to encourage older adults’ pursuits as a way of promoting brain health.
