P02 CLT: Digital Storytelling and Activity Theory

Thu, Nov 6, 3:30 to 4:30pm, 3rd Level, Conference Ctr B

Short Description

In digital storytelling (DST), learners create their stories in constructivist learning environments (CLEs). Digital storytelling is based on constructivism, and Vygotskian activity theory can be applied to digital storytelling. In the activity theory triangle, “subject” is a learner, and “object” is a story. Learners can use various digital “tools (artifacts)” such as a digital camera, a computer, and movie-editing software. Expansive activity system by Engeström gives us a helpful hint for understanding the processes used by DST learners in classes and communities.
