Short Description

This session highlights the key findings of a latent class analysis of risky online behaviors among 825 eighth graders in Hong Kong. Two distinguished intensity patterns (high-risk versus low-risk) were identified from six types of risky internet behaviors (plagiarism, hacking, pornography, unauthorized use, internet stickiness, and cyber back-mouthing). Problem-behavior theory was applied to discuss the personal (attitudes towards internet use) and environmental factors (parenting styles, family atmosphere, peer influence) associated with the high-risk pattern.
