There has been much enthusiasm in MOOCs and the number of MOOCs offered by different MOOC providers continues to grow. Yet, evidence-based research, though beginning to surface, is lacking. The purpose of this study was to examine the learners’ perspective of taking a five-week MOOC in journalism, and understand why people take MOOCs and what aspects of MOOCs attract these participants. Findings indicated both affordances and challenges of MOOCs as an emerging learning tool.
