How Much Assistance Should Be Provided When Teaching Proportional Reasoning?

Wed, Nov 5, 1:00 to 2:00pm, 3rd Level, Clearwater

Short Description

Proportional reasoning is taught in middle school and is used everyday in adulthood. However, the current approach is not very effective. One suggestion is to use an intelligent tutoring system in which a student can receive immediate feedback from the tutor and ask for hints as needed. However, should all of the problems be tutored or should there also be examples? This study examines the use of examples and tutored problems in teaching proportional reasoning.
