Professional Development for Novice PBL Instructors

Short Description

When K-12 teachers new to problem-based learning (PBL) attempt to insert PBL into a largely direct instruction curriculum, the hoped for benefits may be compromised due to challenges supporting multiple small groups and the difficulty of designing professional development to enable teachers to address this challenge. Through asynchronous online PD, we introduced, PBL, teacher scaffolding, and a computer-based scaffold. The PD is informed by several frameworks for successful online instruction. Participant feedback discussed.
