[NR] A Cross-Cultural Study about Student Motivation: The Comparison of UK and Turkey Cases

Short Description

The purpose of this study is to explore the cultural differences in motivation of master students from UK and Turkey in Research Methods (RM) course. The study investigates the influence of cultural differences on students’ motivation in terms of control belief, intrinsic goal orientation, extrinsic goal orientation, Self efficacy, task value, and test anxiety. 90 university students enrolled in RM course from UK and Turkey as the representatives of Anglo and Middle Eastern cultures, respectively, were voluntarily participated in the study. Simple random sampling method was used to collect data from the accessible population. The motivation subscale of Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) developed by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, and McKeachie (1993) was used to collect data. The study provides evidence about whether cultural difference has an influence on student motivation and the universal generalizability of the studies conducted in the field of motivation in education.
