A multilevel model was developed to examine the effects of individual-level self-regulation and group-level co-regulation on collaborative ill-structured problem-solving. One hundred and thirty-one per-service teachers collaborated in groups of 3-4 to solve an ill-structured problem. The results confirmed that self-regulation had an impact on individual students’ problem-solving outcomes. Furthermore, this study provided evidence that the effects of self-regulation on problem-solving were not consistent throughout the problem-solving processes.
