Students’ Online Learning Experiences in Collectivist Cultures

Short Description

This proposal describes a survey research looking at online facilitation strategies in collectivist cultures. A modified version of the “Community of Inquiry” survey was used to collect data at a Distance Education higher education organization in Southern Europe. Four hundred and eighty-seven students responded to the survey. Preliminary results show online students creating cohesive ingroups, valuing collaborative activities and depreciating online communication as supportive of social interaction.
