Constructive Articulation between the Sciences of Learning and the Instructional Design and Technologies Communities

Thu, Nov 6, 1:00 to 2:00pm, 2nd Level, Grand 5

Short Description

There have developed two professional communities which share an interest using innovative approaches and emerging technologies to design and implement effective support for learning. The older of these two communities is commonly referred to using terms such as ‘instructional design’ and ‘educational technology’. This community of professional practice has existed in the USA for more than 80 years dating back to the Division of Visual Instruction formed in 1923 within the National Educational Association. The newer of these two communities is commonly referred to using terms such as ‘learning science’ and dates back to the 1980s in the USA with the development of Bank Street College and the New School for Social Research.
