This study establishes Chickering and Gamson’s (1987) Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education as a tool to gauge quality in online courses. Evaluation instruments currently used to design and review online courses in higher education institutions were collected and coded. The research questions focus on how evaluation instruments assess the Seven Principles. Results suggest the need for a simpler evaluation tool that directly assesses the established best practices for undergraduate education.
