Social presence in online learning environments has been posited as a means to improve instructional effectiveness in such environment. To understand the effect of social presence, we propose to use Social Network Analysis (SNA) to examine the patterns of interaction in online learning environments. In the study, we used SNA to explore students’ interaction patterns and class connections in an online course. A series of SNA measures were computed and explained in the following part.
