Short Description

This paper presents a review of distance education literature published in the TOJDE. The articles (N=784) published between 2000 and 2015 were reviewed for this study. Accordingly, computer-assisted content analysis revealed that “the rise of ICT and e-learning (2000-2003)”, “the increasing use of educational technologies in distance education (2004-2007)”, “technology supported online/virtual learning environments (2008-2011)”, and finally “the rise of the student centered, technology supported education and data-driven approaches (2012-2015)” were major themes identified.
