Positive attitudes towards social media in foreign language learning are found in literature but few studies have addressed the cultural perspectives. This article explored the cultural perspectives on the roles of social media in foreign language learning by reviewing and exploring the theories and empirical evidence of integrating social media into foreign language learning. Results revealed slow development of theoretical development and limited evidence of effectiveness of social media on foreign language learning.
