This pilot study investigates the construction of personas that represent Hispanic adult English learners. Three TESOL practitioners describe how these personas influenced their perceptions on the culture of their learners. This investigation provides evidence that personas effectively help TESOL practitioners enhance intercultural empathy for their learners. Preliminary findings of this project show that the use of personas enriches the TESOL practice and the instructional design field in the development of culturally empathic instructional content.
