In this session, we will closely examine the instructional design implications of using an overarching course template design to inform and support student learning, usability, navigation, flow, and interaction, in the courses taught at Northwestern University’s School of Communication. The presenters will briefly summarize how the template was built with both instructional outcomes and visual appeal in mind, and how it is utilized for a variety of courses, programs and modules. The goal of this session is to engage participants in a conversation on the specific design considerations for online course layouts and design in the context of multimodal design for learning, student interaction, and learning outcomes.
