We developed an augmented infrared reality (AIR) to support learners learning of spatial-, translational-, and temporal-augmented visual perception in order to improve students’ learning of thermodynamics. The prediction-observation-explanation cycle was adopted to design corresponding student activities using augmented infrared reality. We conducted evaluation study in a K-12 classroom with two rounds of experiments. We found that using students can have better scientific practices, and thermodynamics knowledge gains using augmented infrared reality.
