Using Emergency Scenarios to Engage and Acclimate Veterinary Students to the Culture of Professional Practice

Tue, Nov 3, 10:30 to 11:45am EST (10:30 to 11:45am EST), Virtual AECT, Grand8

Short Description

The unpredictable nature of large-animal veterinary clinical rotation experiences results in inconsistency in preparation for practice and low self-efficacy/confidence. Engaging, online problem-solving scenarios provide consistency in student experiences, and improve student learning outcomes and confidence. Veterinary Emergency Treatment Scenarios (VETS) engage students with large animal cases, prompting them to synthesize prior learning and use step-wise diagnostic reasoning to problem-solve. This practice supplements clinical rotations and promotes transfer to the culture of professional practice.
