An Exploration of Pre-Service Teachers’ Instructional Design Decision-Making for K-12 STEAM Teaching and Learning

Wed, Nov 4, 10:30 to 11:45am EST (10:30 to 11:45am EST), Virtual AECT, River14

Short Description

In this study, we investigated pre-service teachers’ instructional design decision-making from a design activity addressing K-12 STEAM teaching and learning. Thirty-two pre-service teachers at a university in the Southeast US participated in the design activity, exploring dynamics in K-12 STEAM education and then practicing instructional design decision-making skills through intervention design and development processes. The results showed that scaffolding, collaboration among learners, design debriefs, and reflections helped pre-service teachers make design decisions.
