Coding education will become mandatory in Japan from 2020 onwards, and its incorporation into elementary schools’ curriculum is required. Teacher trainings and the updated computer environments are considered key factors for successful implementation of coding education. Authors of this paper received a grant to teach coding at elementary schools at a digital disadvantage in small towns. Two obstacles we encountered will be discussed.
