Designing A Tabletop Game that Fosters Children's Computational Thinking

Mon, Nov 2, 7:30 to 8:30am EST (7:30 to 8:30am EST), Virtual AECT, Gallery Walk

Short Description

Given the increased emphasis on computer science education for fostering computational thinking (CT) in K12 classrooms, more related unplugged games are in need in order to increase the interest and motivation of young children and for the learning experience to be accessible for anyone with or without computers. This study is a design-based research that aims to design a board game targeted for grades 3-6 that can foster CT and help students become familiar with the basic concepts in coding. The game design process, playtest result and implications will be discussed in the session.
