In this session, we describe an mHealth intervention (Diabetes Journey) for teenagers with type-1 diabetes to reduce barriers to adherence by improving executive functioning skills. Within the frame of design-based research, patient-centered user experience design methods were applied to design, develop, and evaluate the online learning environment and associated learning content. Results suggest that Diabetes Journey has high acceptability, comprehensibility, and relevance for the target population. Implications for healthcare contexts will be discussed.
