Augmented Scientific Investigation: Making Invisible Visible to the Unaided Eye via Augmented Reality

Mon, Nov 2, 4:30 to 5:45pm EST (4:30 to 5:45pm EST), Virtual AECT, City4

Short Description

Augmented reality (AR) technologies have shown many promises in supporting science education (Strzys et al., 2017). In this study, we introduce an AR technology (i.e., SmartIR) developed by the research team and report our analysis of an interview study with ninth-grade students. Our analysis shows that students perceived SmartIR useful in science learning through 1) making abstract concepts visible, 2) enabling interactions with dynamic and complex scientific procedures, and 3) promoting transfer of learning.
