In this presentation we will describe one research team’s process of developing a “research family,” by negotiating between models of cognitive apprenticeship and a more open-ended collaboration in order to meet the needs of diverse students who bring their own professional and personal cultural heritage. We will examine the group’s history, the evolution of various group activities, and the ways in which we cultivated our own unique research group culture.
