The Impact of VR Social Cues on Learners’ Cognitive Load, Social Presence, and Learning Performance

Sat, Nov 7, 3:00 to 4:15pm EST (3:00 to 4:15pm EST), Virtual AECT, Grand6

Short Description

This session will share the findings of a pilot study aimed at evaluating the impact of enhanced social cue capabilities of instructor avatars as pedagogical agents in modern VR (immersive) learning environments, in contrast with social cues present in the previous generation of VR (desktop VR). The analysis will be conducted through the lenses of Mayer’s cognitive theory of multimedia learning and social agency theory, looking specifically at multimedia learning principles based on social cues.
