The Effects of Using 3D-printed Hands to Teach American Sign Language Handshape Stories

This study examined the effects of using 3D-printed hands as an instructional manipulative for hearing, undergraduate American Sign Language students learning to write handshape stories, which tell a story using a single handshape. Participants wrote handshape stories during two sessions - one without the 3D-printed hands and one with. Results indicate an increased number of words used and increased story duration when students used the 3D-printed hands during the development of their handshape story.
