MacGyver Makerspaces: Creating with Unexpected Resources

Thu, Nov 5, 4:30 to 5:45pm EST (4:30 to 5:45pm EST), Virtual AECT, River19

Short Description

Makerspaces leverage constructivist and constructionist theories to enable and focus student-centered inquiry. However, most makerspace programs currently in operation leverage ready-made materials and resources that are not available to children outside of affluent areas. The purpose of this study is to bring together the concepts of Makerspaces and TALULAR (teaching and learning using local resources) to create a model for instruction that encourages the development of problem-solving skills in children living in impoverished neighborhoods.
