Active Learning Classrooms for All: How Active Learning Spaces Can Support English Language Learners

Short Description

Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs) heavily rely on verbal communication for learning activities, which may pose challenges for students who do not speak English as their first language (Beapler et al., 2016). To assess the impact of ALCs on English Learners (ELs), this study examines how ELs engaged with peers, teachers, and the physical affordances of a STEM ALC. This presentation identifies the ways in which ELs can benefit from the collaborative nature of an ALC.
