Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching: Transforming Learning Across Disciplines, 8th edition (IETT) is written and designed as a digital textbook (print is also available) that documents the enduring and emerging roles for digital technology to transform learning and instruction within elementary, middle, and secondary education (i.e., K-12). The primary audience for the text is preservice teachers, such as undergraduate students earning a degree and teaching certification, and practicing K-12 educators. The overarching goals of the text are to offer teachers a contemporary, research-based knowledge corpus about best practices for technology integration in K-12 schools and to help teachers see their role in shaping the future of technology in education. Teachers harness this knowledge for instructional decision-making to design and build blended and/or online learning across seven subject areas. This book is a comprehensive, research-based guidebook to the best practices involving technology in K-12 education, which has been widely adopted in preservice teacher education. The text includes four parts. Part 1 (Ch 1-3) provides the historical underpinnings of the fields that inform the current educational technology practices, the learning theories that shape instruction, a technology integration planning model that guides development of technology-supported instruction that is responsive to instructional or learning problems-of-practice, and an extensive review of the mindsets and practices of teacher technology leaders. Parts 2 and 3 introduce the technological resources that support teaching and learning. The second part (Ch 4-5) introduces technologies for general productivity and instructional software. The third part (Ch 6-8) focuses on web-based content, communication, collaboration, design, creation, and making activities. Ch. 8 is a culmination in which the chapter content guides teachers to use knowledge gained from Ch 1-7 to develop blended or online learning lessons/curricula. Part 4 (Ch 9-15) offers disciplinary-specific chapters in the following seven content areas: special education; English and language arts; second and foreign languages; science, engineering, and mathematics; social studies; music and art; and physical and health education. These chapters focus on the research-based, technology-supported teaching and learning strategies that are specific to each content area.
